Nutty New BM Ticket Policy

In case anyone missed it, Burning Man has a new, nuttier ticket policy this year. Instead of just raising ticket prices to match market demand they’re going with an odd “lottery” system that will randomly assign you a price or tell you you’re out of luck and can’t have a ticket. Ugh.

Somewhere in the distance, a faint “oonch oonch oonch” can be heard….

Declare your commitment early, like Colleen, and be a part of the Camp BloodyMaryLand greatness in 2012.  Remember, Burning Man tickets SOLD OUT in 2011.  Now is the time to start planning your time off, and to begin dreaming about lovely costumes.

Experiment in Mo’blogging

The thought is that as we travel to Reno, meet up,  and construct the bar, we can keep everyone at home updated through pictures sent to our newly-created Twitter account.  See the new sidebar widget! –>

PEX Container Load In

The PEX container load in was a success! I built a shipping crate for the sound system, sledge hammer, tarps, heavy coats, hats etc etc. Besides the drive the drop off went smoothly and I’ll recommend this method for other burners who fly in the future! Hard to beat for $5.50 a cu ft round trip.

Excellent shade structure

Our rideshare pal Steve has a pretty sweet shade structure setup, and so I am posting his photo here  so everyone can see.  I can tell from our web stats that lots of people are looking for ways to keep out of the sun and cool.  Hope this is useful!

Stamping Fabric

Thought I’d share my project with the world in case other burners want advice.  This is reposted from Facebook.

So, there was this screenprinting ink that came with some kit from Michaels. I bought only the ink with one of the 50% off coupons, as it was about $7 for a tiny bottle. I think the key might be the stamp bit. I took a sheet of that “Foamies” junk and cut out the shape, then glued to a stiff board. It’s still not as nice as I would like. I think I’m going to try to get a fabric pen for touchup. Maybe make a second one and use an Exacto knife to cut out the man in the middle of the crab. This one was done by taking a pin and poking holes in the pattern I wanted.
UPDATE:
I bought a couple of fabric pens, which are kinda crap, but they DO work to color in the little man and make him stand out more. If anyone else were to try this, I’d tell them to use a paint brush, as the pens don’t give very nice definition. Also, I’m going to try to be green and use some of Herb’s t-shirts and hit up Yesterday’s Rose for more T’s.

UPDATE 8/8

T-shirts were on sale at the thrift store.  Only 75 cents a piece!

Reno Supplies

The DC Burner list posted this fantastic resource today.   It shall surely help us find stuff in Reno.  Thanks guys!

The prototype is coming along nicely. I really think I’ll have it working for the burn.
